METALLICA's 'Ride The Lightning' Covered By Female Soul Singer KENDRA MORRIS (Audio)

August 8, 2012

New York-based singer-songwriter Kendra Morris's cover version of the METALLICA classic "Ride The Lightning" — replete with haunting flutes and Mellotron — can be streamed using the SoundCloud player below.

Kendra's debut album, "Banshee", will be released on August 28 via Wax Poetics Records. The label is making available a different cover each week leading up to the CD's release.

Check out Morris's previous entries, the PINK FLOYD-esque cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" (audio) and PINK FLOYD's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (audio).

Inspired in name by wailing female demons from Irish folklore, "Banshee" is described in a press release as "an amalgam of stories, both imagined and Morris's own, produced by Jeremy Page." "In a way, banshees just cast spells with their voices," Morris says, "and I just think some of the greatest singers do the same thing."
